| The town of
West Yellowstone, Montana, became a popular entrance to Yellowstone
National Park after it was established following the arrival of
the Union Pacific Railroad in 1907. The Union Pacific built extensive
facilities at West Yellowstone to serve the thousands of tourists
who arrived by train in the summer months to visit the park. After
train service ended, Union Pacific donated its West Yellowstone
facilities to the town and the structures are used today for a variety
of purposes. The story of West Yellowstone and its UP heritage provides
a vivid reminder of when travel to Yellowstone National Park included
a rail journey. |
