This light box car red 30' box car runs on black Barber Coleman Archbar trucks. In 1938, RGS acquired a fleet of 60 box cars from the Colorado & Southern which were rebuilt and placed in the 8500, 8600, and 8700 road number series. The rebuilding program resulted in tax benefits for the railroad for rebuilding existing equipment. In 1942, they were again rebuilt at Salida before being sold to the U.S. Government.
