 This
40’ outside braced box car is painted brown and features white lettering,
including the “Route of the 400” slogan. Built in the 1910s, this outside
braced box car was serviced at Marshalltown Shops in August 1958. The
‘400’ slogan designates the passenger train “Twin Cities 400” that was
introduced in 1935. The namesake boasted a travel speed of 400 miles
in 400 minutes between Chicago and Minneapolis/St. Paul. It was introduced
to compete with the CB&Q’s Zephyrs and the Milwaukee Road’s Hiawathas.
