I went up to Georgetown today to visit the Georgetown Loop Railroad. Unfortunatley this will most likely be the last year a Steam locomotive will be seen on the Loop (more on this later). For my previous visit to the Georgetown Loop in July 2000 click here. -Scott Phillips

Driving into Georgetown you first see 3-Truck Shay #8 sitting in front of the gift shop and ticket office. Shay #8 last ran in 1987, since has been stored and on display in Silver Plume. A few years ago, about 2000, it was moved to its present location.

The Georgetown Railroad Offices.
You can board the train at either end. In Georgetown at the Devil's Gate or at Silver Plume. Here we are at Devil's Gate standing in the parking lot. The Green roof is the loading platform. Off to my right is the ticket office. The train will start by backing down hill several hundred feet to start directly below the Devil's Gate bridge. Here it is starting the downhill run. 2-8-0 #40 is leading one of the two trains today. In 2002 #40 was out at the Colorado Railroad Museum for a Steamup.
Starting the 4½ mile uphill run.
