                  Full Cushion Trucks Allied full cushion trucks were designed to 
                  roll high-speed freight cars with passenger car smoothness. 
                  The unique combination of soft-acting coil springs and swing 
                  hangers enabled them to effectively dissipate shock, producing 
                  greatly improved performance at all speeds. Introduced in the 
                  early 1940s, they were ultimately used by sixteen different 
                  railroads to reduce the cost of freight damage. After WWII, 
                  they were gradually removed from service because of their tendency 
                  to derail. In 1955, they were banned from interchange service 
                  by the ICC.

              |  Andrews 
                Trucks A contemporary of both the Archbar and the Bettendorf 
                (A.A.R. Standard) trucks. Its cast frame design was less 
                prone to failure and allowed the use of expensive, serviceable 
                journal boxes left-over from retired Archbar Trucks. The two main 
                spotting features are the bolts that attach to the journal boxes 
                and the tie-bars from the bottom of each journal box to the diagonal 
                of the casting.

                  Trucks Buckeye trucks were developed in the early twentieth 
                  century to address the need for higher capacity freight trucks. 
                  The Buckeye truck addressed this need so effectively that they 
                  are still in use today. They have been used in many applications, 
                  including high capacity steam tenders, cranes, heavy equipment 
                  cars, and heavy weight and depressed center flat cars.

                with a non-harmonic spring combination consisting of coil springs 
                and an elliptic leaf spring. This arrangement provided good shock 
                absorption and prevented rhythmic side-to-side sway on uneven

                  6-Wheel Freight Trucks These 6-wheel Commonwealth trucks were designed 
                  to meet the requirements of high-speed passenger and freight 
                  trains of the 1940s. Strong, lightweight, and adaptable to customer 
                  needs, it helped make smoother, more reliable transportation 
                  possible on Americas rails. While the Buckeye truck (MTL 
                  #1173) was of similar design, it was used primarily for heavyweight 
                  loads. Commonwealth trucks more often found duty under lightweight 
                  rolling stock.
