| This 50’ standard box car with plug
door and no roofwalk is painted mineral brown and runs on black
Barber® Roller bearing trucks. The left side of this car displays
the standard CN paint scheme adopted in 1961, while the right side
proudly sports the colorful “Apple Scheme”. The unique “Apple” paint
and lettering scheme was part of a four car series CN Marketing
chose for a media campaign emphasizing the railway’s commitment
to equipment being suited to a shipper’s needs. Because “insulated”
box cars were primarily used for carrying food stuffs or liquor,
an apple motif was chosen. Fruit was a good example of the loads
these cars carried, protecting against freezing during winter shipment. |
