The Steam Shop has a large array of machine equipment. They also contract out a lot of the specialty work as well.

One of the cars that travels with the steam engines is a mobil machine shop.

The shop has four elevated tracks. This is where I have normally seen the DD40 stored in the past. The walkways are right at the cab deck height.

Challenger #3985 is sitting patiently waiting to head to Denver for Frontier Days next Thursday.

Walking along side the 3985 really gives you an idea of how big it is. The numbers on the side of the cab indicate that the weight on the drivers is 404,000 pounds (not counting the tender).

Looking inside the cab of #844. Note the one piece of modern equipment just to the right of the chair is a control box for handling any diesels MU'd to the steam engine. The 3985 has a similar setup.
