The Special has just passed under Hiway 93 and heading

The land around the Big Ten curves is now Jefferson County Open Space.
You can't drive into it, but you can very easily walk back to Rocky Siding.
The E units, now with their 16-cylinder prime movers, sounded great as
they passed below me.

Here the train is heading south passing the West end of the Rocky Siding.
The cut in the hillside above the train is Clay Siding, where the train will
be in a few minutes as it gains some elevation.

The train is between the Little Ten Curve climbing hard into the Big Ten Curve.
In the foreground is the Rocky siding and just visible over the tail of the
train is Clay siding, 250' higher in elevation.

Just visible in front of E9 #951 is one of the hoppers loaded with dirt
cement & rocks and welded to the rails. This forms a wind block
against the 70mph+ winds that frequent this area.

About 8:20am the Special headed east through Glenwood Canyon.
I caught it about 13 miles east of the City of Glenwood at the mouth of the
canyon. A pedestrian trail traverses the entire length of the canyon,
this spot was a short hike from the east trailhead.

The tail car is an ex-Chicago & North Western car. The rear has theater Style
seating and is designed for giving presentations with the speaker standing in
front of the glass. A roll-up door can cover the glass.
