This 89’ closed auto rack is painted TTX yellow with BN Green uprights. The Burlington Northern herald is BN green and white. The car is lettered in black with “Excess Height” messages. This closed auto rack was built by Whitehead & Kales in the mid-70s and was rebuilt in February 1999. The first auto racks had exposed sides that led to vehicle damage from vandalism and weather; in the early 1970s the railroads started to enclose them with steel mesh. They are now one of the most commonly seen cars on the rails today.
