In volume three of Expanding
Your Model Railroad owner Jim Hoffman sells his Woodland Scenics layout
to a local modeler, and we now have a void to fill...and well fill that
with a mining and logging operation. Well move the existing layout to accommodate
the new addition, and well add some overhead track lighting to improve the
overall lighting on the layout.
Next, well weather some structures with dry powder and add them to the existing
layout, and well scratchbuild a small engine house for the current layout,
and weather it as well. Well install that building as well as add scenery
around it. Then well construct the benchwork for the new New addition.
Well also continue adding scenery and details to our existing layout...such
as the stock pens. well add some larger leaf type trees and Aspen trees
to our background scene. Spline sub-roadbed, homasote roadbed, and finally cork
roadbed will be added before we lay track, and track and turnouts come next...
including a diamond crossing.
Then well jump back to that mill pond and work on the scenery once again,
and well begin the massive amounts of scenery that will enhance our new
mountainous area...adding rock castings and coloring using spray guns and hand
brushes...followed by zip techuring and various foams from both Woodland Scenics
and Scenic Express.
Quite a lot of trees will be added to this new mountainous area...including a
bunch of scratch built tall pine trees. Then a lift out section that will be constructed
to allow access to the scenes and track in the back of the layout.
Well install a mining complex to provide some switching operations for our
mining branch, and well finally pour our river from the sluice gate and
more water downstream!
