| Unlike other containers, you won't
find these on the deck of a ship. The 48' length and 102 inch width
of these boxes keep them in service in North America. Domestic containers
were developed as an alternative to carrying truck trailers by rail.
The reduced weight (by leaving the wheels and much of the frame
behind) and the ability to double stack led to the conversion of
much of the national TOFC trailer fleet to containers in the 80's
and 90's. |
