The first covered hoppers built by American Car & Foundry were delivered to the Santa Fe Railway in October of 1936. These cars were painted black with white lettering and were the only covered hoppers Santa Fe would ever own that weren't brown or gray. The other paint scheme in this 2 pack represents the most common version used by Santa Fe from the time the car's construction until their retirement some five decades later. The original brown cars were delivered without logos but usually received them when serviced within the first few years of use.
