Missouri Pacific, like NYC and Southern, had a swarm of subsidiaries who each had their own reporting marks and corporate shells although they were operated as part of the Mo-Pac system. Two of those subsidiaries as well as MP proper are represented in this 3 pack and single of Two Bay Covered Hoppers. One of the cars is lettered for Missouri-Illinois, another is lettered for St. Louis, Brownsville & Mexico ( St. L B & M ) while the remaining two carry MP reporting marks. All the cars carry the familiar buzz saw logo. While the MP cars are painted DeNumours Company Gray, the two subsidiary cars are painted Sherwin Williams Cement Car Gray. While both paints have a tannish hue, they are visibly different from each other. Missouri Pacific had so many freight cars that at the time of the merger with Union Pacific, their fleet was considerably larger than that of their new parent.
