The Clinchfield is the third busiest railroad per mile of track in the country. Best known for their large amount of coal traffic, the lower half of the railroad features a large variety of minerals including kaolin, which is carried in two of these cars. The other two are specified as sand service cars, identified by their large yellow rectangles. One of the biggest uses of sand service cars is to deliver sand to the on route engine terminals, although they were also used in point to point customer service, such as for glass manufacturers. These cars were built in the late forties, but the reweigh data tags them as 1970's cars.
