| In 1995 the
Colorado Rockies are playing their first season in their new home
in lower downtown Denver -- Coors Field. To commemorate this event,
we have published this fine, illustrated account of the new ball park's
railroad heritage. It occupies the former site of the city's first
railroad station and what was for many years Union Pacific's passenger
car yard. Today, Amtrak's California Zephyr and the Rio Grande Ski
Train pass behind the left field bleachers enroute to and from Union
Station. This not only is a fascinating story of rail activity in
the neighborhood over the years by also tells the relationship of
baseball with railroads and public transit since Denver's earliest
days.
