Joel Akers and myself (Scott Phillips) visited Wyoming today to see the Union Pacific #844 and #3985 leave Cheyenne, WY heading to Sacramento, CA for Railfest. We arrived in Cheyenne about 7am, they had already pulled both engines out of the shop and were under steam. Union Pacific was pretty lenient about letting us 'tourists' walk around, and we spent about two hours there. They finally assembled nineteen passenger cars and the two engines and left heading to Laramie by a little after 9am.

We jumped ahead to Hermosa and waited for the train to arrive. After a while we heard on the radio that they had stopped at Dale Jct. because of a water problem (later we learned it was something to do with the injectors). Probably delayed about fifeteen minutes and then it made its appearance at Hermosa.

Next we ran on into Laramie. There is a pedestrian bridge over the Laramie yard that makes it handy for railfanning. The train stopped here for about 45 minutes to grease and check the engines.

There is also a rail welding facility located at the Laramie yard.
