2-8-0 Consolidation Steam Engine

Siderods, valve gear and wheels are blackened.

View with the boiler shell removed: Bachmann thought ahead to give you plenty of space to install a DCC decoder. Any of the small decoders by Digitrax (DZ123), TCS (M1) or Lenz will fit.
The pilot can be converted with a Micro-Trains® 2004 coupler box and a 1015 coupler. The tender was simple body mount with the 2004.

MODEL INFORMATION
Motor: 5-pole skew-wound
Frame Construction: The engine frame is of the split-frame type which is fairly unusual in steam engines. Gears on the bottom were easy to access by removing a plastic plate. It should be unnecessary to ever disassemble this engine for maintenance.
Drive wheels: The center two axles are powered and the outer two are connected by the side rods.
Electrical Pickup: All drivers and tender wheels
Traction tires: One axle contains two traction tires
Weight: Engine 2 ounces + Tender 1 ounce = 3 ounces total
DCC Readiness: A large space was left under the boiler and all six needed wire points are within a ¼" of this space.
Lights: Single headlight using a yellow LED, directional
Couplers: A small non-functional knuckle on the pilot, a rapido on the tender. A snap-in rapido is included in the box for the front pilot.
Micro-Trains® conversion: At present we do not know of any drop in conversions for this engine, but with a little work a 2004 was body mounted on the tender. By cutting / filing the hole in the pilot large a 2004 box was inserted. The 2004 couplers were the wrong height, but using the couplers from a 1015 inside the 2004 box was about perfect.
Packaging: A rather robust clear jewel case, somewhat larger than any of the other brands on the market. It also includes an 8½" x 11" instruction sheet with a good exploded diagram of the engine, break-in and lubrication information
Special Features: Wire handrails. Yellow headlight (that is not flush mounted to the boiler, very nice). Tremendous detailing typical of a brass engine.
NOTE: The following categories are the opinion of N Scale Supply and are very subjective. These are provided to give you a rough idea of the quality of the product. Your mileage may vary.
Performance: Very smooth performer. Realistic speed range (top speed seems to be about 60mph). Creeps along without any problems. Pulling power is exceptional.
Sound/Noise level: A slight amount of gear noise but after a break-in period this quieted down significantly.
Overall Value: Watching this engine run you will find it very difficult to believe that it was produced by Bachmann. Not only has Bachmann caught up to the rest of the pack, they have now set a new standard to measure steam engines by. The detailing and performance of this engine are phenomenal.
